Round 2 VMRC - Winton Motor Raceway April 1st 2007

Victorian Motor Racing Championships Round 2 event at Winton Raceway last weekend sparked a whirlwind of interest with over 150 competitors participating in the first two-day event for 2007.

Open wheel racing returned to Winton with Formula Vee and Formula Ford taking part in their first event in the past few years. New South Welshman Ryan Simpson comprehensively won the Formula Vee round after scoring four victories in front of Victorian and 2005 1200cc champion George Panagiotidis.

Although Simpson came from behind in each of the races after Panagiotidis vaulted himself into the lead, but Simpson found the speed that clinched him pole and always found a way around to take victory. Third overall belonged to Andrew McFarland ahead of David Frith while impressive debutant Andrew McFarland was left to rue to DNF’s.

Round 1 VMRC - Calder Park February 17th 2007

A twilight meeting at Calder Park Raceway kicked of Round 1 of the Victorian Motor Racing Championship last weekend. Seven categories competed on the action packed card where each category had six events programmed into the single day.

Both the traditional and the club circuit were used throughout with the club circuit being lit up for two nights races.

Two competitors in Brendan Woods (Under 2 Litres) and Harry Witham (Super TT) were the only drivers to claim a clean sweep of events. Woods simply dominated and whilst over a single lap he wasn’t quite the quickest, his consistency in lap times made his wins look comfortable despite them only being around 2s.
